PwnageTool 3.1.4 Adds Support for iPhone OS 3.1.2

pwnagetool3-1-4.pngA few days ago, blackra1n was released for Windows, which supported jailbreaking iPhone OS 3.1.2. The iPhone Dev Team has now released PwnageTool 3.1.4, its Mac OS X-only jailbreaking tool, which supports iPhone OS 3.1.2. The update supports all three generations of the iPhone. It also supports the first and second generation iPod touch, but a second generation iPod touch must already be jailbroken to use this update. PwnageTool 3.1.4 does not support the third generation iPod touch, but users of that device can instead use blackra1n, which supports a tethered jailbreak.

The update also keeps the baseband unlocked on the iPhone, which allows for the use other cellular networks, so long as the iPhone has been updated with custom IPSWs since iPhone OS 3.0. If an iPhone was already updated to 3.1.2 with the official firmware from Apple, there is currently no solution for unlocking the baseband.

The process for unlocking an iPhone 3GS that has already been updated to iPhone OS 3.1.2 involves an exploit that the Dev Team believes will soon be patched by Apple and they are urging iPhone 3GS users to get their EDIC hashes for 3.1.x, as it may prove important for future updates.
