Arthur Levinson Resigns from Google’s Board of Directors

Arthur Levinson has resigned from Google’s Board of Directors, which had served on since 2004.

Eric Schmidt, the CEO and Chairman of Google, described Levinson’s role at Google thus:

“Art has been a key part of Google’s success these past five years, offering unvarnished advice and vital counsel on every big issue and opportunity Google has faced…Though he leaves as a member of our Board, Art will always have a special place at Google.”

Levinson also described his experience at Google:

“Working with Eric, Larry, Sergey and the whole Google team has been a remarkable experience for me. I greatly admire what they’ve built and have no doubt that Google has a terrific future”

Levinson is also a member of Apple’s Board of Directors, as well as Google’s, according to TechCrunch, and his resignation comes amidst an FCC investigation that involves the two companies and AT&T. Whereas Apple and Google were once involved in a good business relationship, with Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt serving on Apple’s Board of Directors, this has since changed after Apple removed all Google Voice apps from the iPhone App Store this July. Not long after Apple did that, Schmidt resigned from its Board.

While Schmidt previously urged Levinson to stay on the board of both companies, Apple may not have been as supportive.
